This is How I Fight My Battles

How do you fight your battles? Every fight, every struggle, every temptation threatens to overwhelm us and bring us to a stop in this journey. None of us are perfect. None of us are immune to this. We though, are equipped to get through this. We have the Lord with us, equipping us and carrying us through the tough spots in life. This battle belongs to the Lord.

The struggle is still real, tougher than we may have faced before, and maybe it has come on the back of the last struggle or trial, which came on the back of the one before that. Maybe you are facing this struggle from a place of weariness, where you are battling to put one anxious foot in front of the other. The good news is that we are equipped to get through these times. We have a Father who loves us, Christ who cares so much for us that He lay down His life for us, and the Holy Spirit, the third part of the trinity residing in us. We have all we need. But just in case we still doubt that we can get through these times, we also have been given people in our lives to walk with us, and to help us remember that we have a God who loves us and is for us. He is faithful and His love endures forever. Ephesians 6:10-17 gives us the outline to our ongoing defense. We need to remember to put on the full armour of God each day so that we enter our days protected. It’s easy to do, yet life often gets in the way and our day can sometimes happen around us before we have even caught our breath.

Every struggle and every fight come with the rollercoaster of thoughts and emotions attached. In the battle, it can be easy to let our emotions take the lead. The battle lines get blurred when emotions are in the way. Take a pause in your momentary chaos. Refocus your heart back to Jesus. Look through His eyes to what is beyond this moment for you. Step forward with eyes that are not full of judgement, hurt, comparison, impatience, anger, resentment, anxiety, or pain. Step forward with Jesus, into what is beyond all that. Listen with ears that are open to hearing, and hearts of love. Forgive. Forgive yourself, and others. It’s not easy, but it is the way through… Emotions cloud the battle. Faith is our weapon of choice.

This is how we fight our battles. Focus on the one who is lighting the way. Look beyond the appearance of what is, to the one who knows the outcome. Trust Jesus to bring you through whatever it is you are in the middle of. Set your eyes on Jesus, and your course for victory. The battle is not ours but the Lords. Listen and obey. Pray, praise, and give thanks. Sing to Him in the middle of the storm and count the steps that you take as for the Lord. Take hold of your thoughts and direct them to the one who is more powerful, stronger and knows us, faults, and all. This is how we fight our battles. How will you fight yours?

For Discussion:

What battle are you facing today?

Do you feel that the battles are coming more regularly? Why do you think that? How are you fighting your battle?

Do you have any bible verses that bring you through battles and set your feet back on course?

Lastly:

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Psalms 91:2

I will say of the Lord, ”He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust”.
