What Was I Thinking?!
Even when life is not going our way, and it is hard to not overthink and make decisions based on our emotions, we can look to God for our strength, protection, and guidance. God is there for us, if only we will look to Him, and draw closer in our uncertainty, pain, and weariness. Maybe this is where you are right now? Maybe this is what you have experienced in the past. God is still there even when life looks bleak. Stop overthinking and start believing.
Whatever it is that we believe about ourselves on the inside is usually what manifests on the outside and reflects in our life through our relationships, decisions, choices, and words. As we move through our days, are we thinking right? Are we holding onto the love that God has for us, the unconditional love that He has for us regardless of how many times we mess up, stuff up, and blow ups we have in our lives? Are we thinking that we should do better in our lives? Or that we need to be different, a better reflection of Jesus, a better friend, more vocal at sharing our faith, a better person? Maybe you think you are not good enough for God to love? That He wouldn’t bother with you because of your past choices and consequences. God though, already knows what your life is like. He already knows who you are and where you have been, and He still loves you.
Maybe you have been walking this walk of faith for some time and you know God’s love for you and have read the scriptures more than a few times. What do you find yourself over thinking about? I don’t know about you, but I find myself struggling with doubt, with fear, and with waiting for the timing of God to come. My overthinking usually has me planning and looking for second opinions when I find myself in situations and circumstances that overwhelm me. I may spend my precious sleeping hours thinking through my circumstances when I should be resting, only to be no better off when morning arrives, and the dark circles greet me in the mirror. God’s timing is perfect. God has the blueprints and the plan and purpose for our lives before we were born. He knows everything about us, and He walks with us through every difficult step that we take. He is a faithful God, and it is worth some thinking time to remind ourselves that His faithfulness and His love endures forever.
In this life there will be trials, we are told that. This journey is not an easy one, but we have God with us always. We are going to overthink things, and it is in our human nature to seek answers and to go on our own even though it never ends as it should. Philippians 4:8 gives us guidance in these times. When overthinking fills our heads, let’s fix our eyes on Jesus, and on God promises, and fill our heads with whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, what ever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. Whatever we are thinking and may be struggling with right now, God is bigger.
